Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association Championship Regatta

History was made today when North Mooreland RC competed in the VA State Championship regatta at the Occoquan course in Fairfax VA for the first time.

Michael Chilmaid competing in the Men's Single Sculls event won the silver medal behind a sculler from Jeb Stuart High School.

James River High School also competed in this regatta for the the first time and came second in the Women's Second Varsity Four and reached the final in the Women's Lightweight and Varsity Fours. The James River Men's Four reached the Petite final.

With two Richmond rowing programs reaching the main finals and medaling in two events, shows how far the development of Scholastic rowing in Richmond has come in recent years.

Spring 2009 - EVSRA Regatta I

The Eastern VA Scholastic Rowing Assoc. (EVSRA) Spring racing season began this past Saturday (March 21st) in Norfolk. North Mooreland had one entry, the Men's 1x (single scull). Facing tough competition, Michael Chilmaid finished second in a field of five. Conditions were a moderate to strong tailwind. Michael beat two scullers (Grassfield and Western Albemarle) that he had lost to before and closed the gap on the Broadwater sculler. A promising start to the season.

Results for the entire regatta can be found:

2009 Starter

Happy 2009 to everyone, hopefully it will be a successful year for us all. For those of you that haven't visited the boathouse recently, the building work to finish the extension is virtually complete and the main task left is to build the racks for the boats in the new sections and move the perimeter fencing from the original boat house to the outside of the new sections.

Virtually all the work was carried out by Members of VBC with the assistance of some friends and family of those members.

The new boathouse will be fully finished in time for the spring season!

Talking of the spring season, which is nearly upon us, to enable us to get up and rowing quickly, it always helps to come to the first practices have done so preparation, be it running, cycling , swimming or any variety of other aerobic activity, if you can you should try to use a rowing machine, many gyms have these as standard equipment and try to build up to 20 to 30 minutes of low rate activity.

For those of you that ordered NMRC Splash tops the order will be shipped from California by January 16th at the latest, so I expect that the items will be shipped this week and will be available for distribution next week.

NMRC JL Splash Jackets

I will be placing an order for NMRC JL Splash Jackets on 1st October. If you require one to be ordered please follow the instructions below.

The final cost is dependent on the quantity we order, but I suspect will be $10 lower than the prices shown below, however we need to pay shipping and printing set up, which inflates the price again to those shown below.

The style is the “ Sequel” and this comes in two alternative fabrics

Hytrell – which cost $109 and Supplex that cost $89. (Last year most people bought the supplex version)

Full details can be obtained from the JL Website http://www.jlracing.com/tab.4.html

To place the order I need the following

· The male or female sizing chart to be completed with a name and the size requirements.( This will be e mailed to you seperately)
· A Check for the above amount depending if you want the Hytrell or Supplex Version.

Delivery can be from 5 to 10 weeks depending on seasonal volumes. I will place an order for those that have submitted their size requirements and provide a check payable to me (S J Chilmaid) On 1st October. No Checks, No Sizing Info, No Order !

If anyone wants to order anything else from the JL website please let me know and we can place it in this order and save on shipping.

You can purchase a NMRC Unisuit (as used by Michael Chilmaid!) from JL.
